About Hera

Hera Varmah, the communications, and Events Assistant at the American Federation for Children, is a compelling force for change. A former recipient of the Florida tax-credit scholarship, Hera’s journey took a transformative turn when she recognized the inequality in educational opportunities across the nation. Armed with a bachelor’s degree in Food Science & Technology from Florida A&M University, she transitioned her career towards education reform.  

Hera’s commitment to advocacy is evident in her work alongside state senators, and legislatures, where she has actively testified before senate and house committees to champion the cause of school choice. In a pivotal moment, she stood before the Congressional Ways and Means Committee, illuminating the transformative impact of a federal school choice bill and how it stands as a beacon of opportunity for every child across the nation. Her impactful narrative has reverberated across the nation as she shares her story at events and panels, leaving an indelible mark on advocates, legislators, and the wider public. Hera’s dedication to bridging educational gaps is a testament to her passion and the driving force behind her mission for a more equitable future for every child in the country.

Future Plans
Hera is resolute in her commitment to the realm of education reform, vowing to persevere until every child in this nation gains access to a high-quality education. Drawing from her personal experience as a former recipient of a school choice scholarship, Hera intimately comprehends how the power of the right education can dismantle barriers and empower our next generation to realize the American Dream.

What do you enjoy about MavPAC the most?

I find immense value in attending the Maverick PAC conferences and listening to the diverse array of speakers they present. As a young woman emerging in the policy arena, these seasoned individuals generously share their wisdom, insights, and advice. Their guidance is truly invaluable and contributes significantly to my growth in the field.

Fun Fact

Jane Austen is my absolute favorite author of all time. I’ve read every single one of her novels, and I’ve watched every movie adaptation!
